AI reflects our biases. How do we build tech that reflects our values instead?

AI is already shaping the world around us. From how doctors make decisions, to how housing is allocated or how police and governments act, the impact of artificial intelligence on society is no longer science fiction.  

Although AI has enormous potential to improve lives, if we're not careful, it could make inequality worse. We need to be clear about how it's used, who controls it, and what values guide it. That’s why our researchers are working to shape AI so it works for everyone, not just those who own it.

What we want: 

• To shape the rules around AI – so it protects people’s rights, supports innovation, and puts people and planet first. 
• To make sure decisions made by AI are fair and accountable – building in principles from the start. 
• To use AI to strengthen democracy – to include everyone and bring communities together. 
• To explore new models – that share the benefits more equally.
